    Teaching Philosophy

My experience tells me that each student has a desire and the ability to learn. It is my job as the teacher to present the material at an appropriate level and in a logical format. Additionally, the material needs to be presented in an interesting manner so students can enjoy their role as learners. Students must be given necessary resources so that everyone that applies themselves will grow in knowledge.

I am obliged to take the course goals and to construct, update, and augment lessons plans to give the students a basis, a road map, where standards and expectations are clearly explained. From this foundation they can begin to increase their knowledge and self confidence in the subject matter.

It is imperative to enable students to become active members in their own education by participating in the classroom, whether by classroom discussion, journaling, or proposing their own activities for coursework. Enabling students to become independent and self-learners is key.

Collaboration is a vital tool that must be incorporated into the classroom. In our diverse world, students must learn teamwork and cooperation with others. They need to learn acceptance and respect and how they, themselves, fit within the group. Differences of opinions are beneficial and educational but intolerance will not be permitted.

As for me, it is critical that I keep learning, honing my skills and incorporating new techniques into the classroom. Student comments on the lesson plans and activities are requested and welcomed. It is my hope, no, my goal, that I will learn from my students as much as they can learn from me.
