Scene: I joined Southern Blend, the Tallahassee chapter of Sweet Adelines
International, in 1999 after seeing an article about one of their performances.
Sweet Adelines is an organization for women's choruses dedicated to singing in
the barbershop style. Each chorus is required to compete at a regional level every
couple of years. Winners of regional events go on to compete at the International
level. Most of the top placed choruses consist of 100 singers or more on stage. Southern
Blend was lucky to have 17 at regional. Thus, we were always looking for new members. (1999)
Result: I had just started professional development by taking webmaster
courses through an outreach program from the Florida State University. It seemed obvious that
I should combine the need of the chorus and my need to practice what I was learning
in the classroom in a real-time setting. Hence, the website was born. This is
indeed, my very first site and the layout has not changed since its inception.
It has served the chorus well and I continue to maintain the site as needed.
