Request: The Office of Instructional Technology (OIT) was tasked to develop
security awareness training for faculty, staff and students at UT. Four ITC personnel
were included members of the task group including myself.
The number of security threats on UT's network had
increased over several semesters demanding that these threats be addressed sooner rather
than later. We had 12 weeks to deliver a product within a tight budget. (2005)
Solution: The task group realized that getting people, especially students, to watch
videos or read information on computer security issues was going to be a challenge.
We decided to produce 10 short, somewhat humorous video clips, to address the top
security issues that most often plague our users. We conducted a two week, full campus email
blitz directing users to the new video being released for that day. At the end of the two
weeks, users were asked to complete a survey/quiz qualifying them for some great prizes.

security awareness videos.
